Swan Lake

Watercolour

There is a pleasant simplicity to this scene which I photographed in Torquay back in  November 2020.

The reflections were fun to do. I used masking fluid on the left hand side to preserve the white of the paper but was careful not to use it on the main body of water as it would have left too harsh a line.

Swans always remind me of a happy time – back in 1988 – when I was working as a travel courier in Interlaken, Switzerland. There were lots of swans on the lake there which glided by serenely. However, we were warned that they were actually very dangerous and to give them space (which I did).

The original painting of swans hangs in our kitchen. I certainly intend to paint more swan paintings in the future. They are just so majestic.
